Roads to Be Resurfaced Near Kennedy High
Residential streets west of John F. Kennedy High School and south of the Moody Creek Channel will be resurfaced this year.
The City Council recently authorized advertising for bids for the maintenance work.
Public Works Director Ismile Noorbaksh estimated that the total cost would be about $135,000.
In a memo to the City Council, Noorbaksh said the city will use part of its portion of the gas tax and Measure M funds to help finance the repairs.
“The work entails removal and replacement of broken asphalt pavement in select locations, sealing of cracks and then covering the full street [with slurry seal],” Noorbaksh said.
Slurry seal is a mixture of asphalt, sand, aggregate and water. It not only seals cracks, but also it slows the process of further street deterioration, Noorbaksh said.
A typical slurry sealing lasts five to seven years.
