JETHAWKS REPORT : Steinmann Has Come to Play

Share

First baseman Shawn Buhner, who had an ingrown toenail surgically removed Wednesday, was placed on the seven-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday.

Catcher Scott Steinmann has been called up from extended spring training in Peoria, Ariz., to replace Buhner on the JetHawk roster. Steinmann fills a void on the JetHawks created by injuries to two other catchers.

Scot Sealy, with a dislocated left thumb, will not be able to catch until next week. Dusty Wathan, who suffered a bruised left wrist Tuesday night, will not be able to catch for at least two games.

Steinmann, 22, is in his first assignment with a minor league team. He was signed as a free agent out of Miami (Ohio) last August and played in instructional league. He was not assigned to a team this spring because he suffered a broken hand in spring training.

He didn’t learn he would be sent to Lancaster until about 11 p.m. Wednesday and was on a plane Thursday morning.

“He’s going to play, too,” Manager Dave Brundage said. “He’s not just here to catch bullpens.”
