Illegal Immigrants Should Be Sent Home

Share

Re “Freedom Dreams” and the Chinese illegal immigrants being held: Would someone please tell me why the United States government is spending millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money to take care of people who have violated our sovereign borders?

We cannot even feed our own hungry and homeless, and millions of Americans have no health insurance. Why are these illegal people entitled to free room and board and medical care? They have the right to be treated humanely, but not taken care of. They should have been returned on the first freighter going to the China Sea.

Regarding the Letters in Life & Style on May 19, Sergio Souza’s letter about “Freedom Dreams” shows common sense and compassion. He wants immigrants to have “real work and pay taxes” in America.

I agree that is much better than imprisoning them, which costs the Immigration and Naturalization Service $55 a day for each person.

But isn’t the problem here that Mexico is having the worst economic crisis in many years? You can’t blame the immigrants entering the USA. You can’t blame me for welcoming a few thousand. However, Los Angeles can’t handle a few million more.

I just want to point out that a geographical error was made in “Freedom Dreams” (May 15): Ecuador is incorrectly placed in Central America. Located just south of Colombia, Ecuador is clearly in South America, not Central America.

Although I am not from Ecuador, I am still an Ibero American and take offense at this error. Lack of geographical knowledge is one of the many problems that lead to cultural misunderstandings among Americans of all ethnicities.
