Colorado Rocky pitcher Bret Saberhagen, who has had continued pain in his right shoulder after arthroscopic surgery in October, will undergo season-ending reconstructive surgery on the ailing shoulder today in New York.

Saberhagen, 32, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, is expected to be out 12 to 18 months.

The Philadelphia Phillies said they will place left-handed pitcher Sid Fernandez (2-4) on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained ligament in his pitching elbow.
