City’s Home Page Scheduled for Internet

Concerned citizens, travel agents and other businesses will be able to connect with city officials by mid-June when Buena Park’s home page debuts on the Internet.

Economic development officials have devoted $12,000 to the project, saying that home pages are already effective in luring travelers and business people to the city’s entertainment corridor.

“It’s a marketing tool, it’s an information source, it’s an interactive mechanism,” said Gus Duran, a project manager for the city’s economic development division. “We want people to read it, look at it and pick up the phone and call. . . . You want them to take action.”

“The Internet is a new tool, like television was 40 or 50 years ago,” Duran said.

Part of a larger marketing push, the new web site will provide reams of information about the city to anyone who looks up https://buenapark.com on the computer screen.

“The way Chevrolet has to market Chevrolet, that’s how we have to market Buena Park,” Duran said when unveiling a prototype of the web site last week.

The site has several categories of information, including attractions, City Hall data, hotels and motels, businesses and other sites. The home page itself has a black background with confetti and colorful letters spelling out the city’s name.

Tourists can plan their entire trips using the web site, said Lyndi O’Toole of Maximize Online, the Irvine company that created the site for Buena Park.
