Barry Craig Streets, a 49-year-old retired Navy Reserve captain, has died at his Camarillo home after a long illness.

Streets, who was born April 2, 1947, in Macon, Ga., was a 23-year Ventura County resident, coming from Colorado.

He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1970 and served in the Navy through 1972.

From 1973 until his death on Monday, he was an electronics engineer for the Navy at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme. He briefly worked at the Naval Ship Weapons Systems Engineering Station before transferring to the Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory, where he spent the bulk of his career and was last employed as head of the instrumentation division.

He retired in September from the Navy Reserve at the rank of captain.

Streets enjoyed gardening, hiking, reading and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; son Jhared, and daughter Lauren, of Camarillo; his parents, Mary and Seville Streets of Boulder, Colo.; and his brother, Gary, of Woodland Park, Colo.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Naval Construction Battalion Center chapel. Burial will be in Boulder.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the Canyon in Camarillo or the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.
