June Blazes In With Valley Temperatures Around 100

June struck with a vengeance Saturday as temperatures nearly hit the century mark throughout the San Fernando Valley.

Van Nuys and Woodland Hills checked in at 99 degrees and Northridge at 98, while Burbank, the cool spot in the Valley, logged in at 95.

“It looks like it will stay pretty warm until midweek,” said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist with WeatherData, the company that provides The Times with weather information.

A strong marine layer bringing lots of moisture into the Valley last week kept temperatures in the low 80s, Brack said.

“That’s pretty much gone,” he said. “Now it’s sunny with no moisture in the air.”

Other Southern California spots fared even hotter Saturday with Monrovia, Riverside and San Bernardino registering 100 degrees.

The hottest place in the country was Death Valley, which recorded a high of 110, Brack said.

Temperatures in the Valley through the middle of this week should range between the upper 90s and 105 with lows between the mid-50s to lower 60s, Brack said.
