Group Extends Invitation to Korean War Veterans

To honor the 1.7 million Americans who served during the Korean War, a Koreantown group is organizing a dinner party in Los Angles on June 22, three days before the 46th anniversary of the outbreak of he conflict.

“Even after 46 years, we cannot forget the courage and sacrifices made by American soldiers who put their lives on the ine to protect (South) Korea and defend democracy,” said Young S. Lee, a Koreatown dentist who is organizing the event.

This is the fifth year that Lee’s group, the Korean American Inter-Cultural Foundation, is saluting the veterans, and he expressed the hope of seeing at least 500 veterans at the observance.

The event, being co-sponsored by the South Korean government and the Korean Veterans Assn., will be held at 6 p.m., June 22 at the Korean Consul General’s residence at 627 S. Rossmore Ave. in Hancock Park. Veterans will be treated to an evening of traditional Korean food, dance and music and will receive certificates and medals of honor from the South Korean government and cultural souvenirs, according to Lee.
