A Cal State Fresno administrator has been appointed the new dean of Cal State Northridge’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the university announced this week.

William Flores, who has served as associate dean of the School of Social Science at Cal State Fresno since July 1994, will assume his new position on Aug. 1. He replaces Ralph Vicero, who retired last month after 27 years at CSUN.

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences includes the anthropology, geography, history, Pan-African studies, political science, psychology and sociology departments. Flores received a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a master’s and doctoral degrees from Stanford University, all in political science. During his career, he was worked at Cal State Hayward, De Anza College and Santa Clara University.

In the 1993-94 academic year, he was a Rockefeller Fellow at City University in New York and has held an appointment as a visiting scholar and associate fellow at Stanford’s Center for Chicano Research since 1991.

“I am thrilled that Dr. Flores is coming to Northridge,” said Louanne Kennedy, CSUN’s vice president for academic affairs. “He is intellectually gifted and an experienced administrator who is knowledgeable about California and the [California State University].”
