Obituary : Richard Miyagawa; Stacking Systems Manager

Richard Miyagawa, a Thousand Oaks resident and shop manager for Stacking Systems in Camarillo, died Thursday after a sudden illness. He was 54.

Miyagawa was born July 25, 1941, in Sacramento. Along with his family, he spent much of the first five years of his life in internment camps for Japanese-Americans during World War II, said his wife, Kaethe Miyagawa.

After his family’s release from the camps, Miyagawa attended school in East Los Angeles and earned an engineering degree from East Los Angeles College. He landed a job with Bullock’s Department Stores, working in a division that designed new Bullock’s buildings.

During the last few years, Miyagawa worked for Stacking Systems, which makes and installs furniture for computer workstations, Kaethe Miyagawa said.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Holly Miyagawa, and son, Kenneth Miyagawa, both of Thousand Oaks; sister Norma Diaz of El Monte; and brothers Bill Miyagawa of Oceanside and Donald Miyagawa of Brooklyn, Iowa.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m.
