Marjorie Gross; Comedian, ‘Seinfeld’ Writer

Marjorie Gross, 40, stand-up comedian, writer and producer who had recently worked on “Seinfeld.” A native of Toronto, she began working in New York clubs with routines that opened with her pointing to her dark curly hair and saying, “Isn’t it weird what humidity does to straight, blond hair?” She also appeared in off-Broadway plays and on David Letterman’s show. Switching to comedy writing, Gross moved to Los Angeles and worked on such popular television programs as “Square Pegs,” “Newhart,” “Anything but Love” and “Get a Life.” For the last two years, she had been a writer and co-producer of “Seinfeld.” She recently wrote an article for the New Yorker magazine about her struggle with ovarian cancer.
