College District Assessment

Share

* The Los Angeles Community College District’s plan to tax Burbank property owners for maintenance and new recreational facilities is an insidious attempt to circumvent property tax laws. The proposed property tax increase would not be used for higher education; instead, it would be used to build swimming pools, plant flowers and expand recreational facilities.

The Assembly [has] passed a state budget amendment I wrote with Assemblywoman Paula Boland that will dock $1.10 from the Los Angeles Community College District for every $1 taken from Burbank property owners.

I wholeheartedly support funding higher education. However, sneaking through a tax on Burbank property owners to pay for recreational facilities in the city of Los Angeles is a far cry from the noble purpose of funding academics.
