Ceremony to Honor Law Enforcement
The arrival of the torch for the Special Olympics Summer Games on Thursday will touch off a ceremony recognizing local law enforcement agencies that raised $7,000 for the sporting event.
Torchbearers will have carried the flame over 45 miles of road in Ventura County before it arrives on the steps of Ventura’s City Hall, 501 Poli St., at 8:30 a.m.
Local law enforcement officials will tote the torch up California Street in a procession that will feature sirens and music, before local dignitaries, including Ventura Mayor Jack Tingstrom, welcome the flame.
More than 150 local law enforcement officials have together collected $7,000 through various fund-raisers to help send a Ventura County delegation of 102 athletes and their coaches to the games.
