The war crimes trial of a former Nazi SS officer was suspended after the prosecutor filed an appeal outlining suspicions that the military court’s three judges are biased in favor of the defendant. Judge Agostino Quistelli announced that the trial of Erich Priebke was being halted until July 10 to give a military appeals court time to decide whether any of the judges should be replaced. Priebke, an SS captain in Nazi-occupied Rome, has been on trial for his role in the massacre of 335 civilians on March 24, 1944.
