3 Teachers Honored for Cultural Work
The Orange County Hispanic Education Endowment has chosen three teachers in the Garden Grove Unified School District as the recipients of its Apple of Gold award for excellence.
Sylvia Krenzian, Teri Rocco and Alice Rumbaugh were honored for implementing Las Amigas De La Cultura, a program that introduces students, parents and other teachers to Latino culture.
Earlier this year, the trio converted a multipurpose room at Hazard Elementary School in Garden Grove into a museum displaying costumes, toys, musical instruments, pottery and artifacts of Latin America.
The program has since expanded to Bowers Museum of Cultural Arts in Santa Ana, Anaheim Museum, Mission San Juan Capistrano and South Coast Repertory Second Stage.
