U.S., Japan to Hold More Talks on Chip Pact: After two days of talks in Tokyo earlier this week, senior U.S. and Japanese negotiators were to begin a further round of meetings in Washington today on whether to again extend their semiconductor agreement. The pact--intended to ensure access to Japan’s lucrative semiconductor market for foreign chip makers--is to expire July 31. While Japanese officials favor letting the agreement run out, the U.S. government and semiconductor industry favor its extension. Japan had been resisting talks on extending the agreement for two more years.
