NBC Studio Expansion

Share

* This is in reference to Patrice Apodaca’s article, “NBC Plans to Triple Space at Studio Lot,” June 8, which outlined yet another massive development that will have to rely on Barham Boulevard as one of its major connectors to the outside world.

The unchecked overdevelopment underway in our area has spun out of control. There is no way that anything less than a mammoth regional fix will mitigate the traffic problems Burbank and the city and county of Los Angeles are heaping on Barham Boulevard and the Barham / Cahuenga corridor.

In the name of greater tax bases and jobs and by kowtowing to the entertainment giants, our local officials seem to feel no compunction whatsoever when it comes to destroying the lives of the thousands of people who live in the surrounding area. They seem sadistically enthusiastic about subjecting us to 20 to 25 years of the horrors and pollution of construction while at the same time setting us, and future generations, up for catastrophic loss of life and property when our next major natural disaster strikes.

Although it may be wishful thinking, it’s not too late for responsible public officials to take the high road, for a change, and postpone considering the MCA, NBC and any other projects that may come up until they are satisfied, with written commitments in place, that the infrastructure, insofar as handling the resulting traffic is concerned, can truly take the added load.
