Tampa Bay Wins a Shootout, 4-3

Marcelo Carrera, a substitute in the 90th minute, led the Columbus Crew to a 4-3 shootout victory over the Tampa Bay Mutiny Saturday night in Tampa, Fla.

The Crew outscored the Mutiny, 3-2, in the tiebreaker with Carrera scoring the decisive goal.

Roy Lassiter and Martin Vasquez converted for Tampa Bay (8-5) and Steve Ralston missed the deciding fifth attempt.

Columbus (4-9) took the lead seven minutes into the game when Paul Caligiuri converted a corner kick by Robert Warzycha. Doctor Khumalo gave the Crew a 2-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 21st minute.

Ralston put the Mutiny on the board in the 28th minute, assisted by Vasquez and Goran Hunjak.

Marino put the Crew up, 3-1, in the 50th minute, but Tampa evened the score on a penalty kick by Lassiter in the 64th minute and a goal by Vasquez in the 75th.
