Karel Poborsky chipped the ball over Portugal goalkeeper Vitor Baia from the edge of the penalty area in the 53rd minute.

In the other quarterfinal, tourney favorite Germany beat Croatia, 2-1, on Matthias Sammer’s goal in the 58th minute. German star Juergen Klinsmann, who scored his team’s first goal in the 20th minute on a penalty kick, injured his right calf and is expected to sit out the rest of the tournament.
