Pasqualino De Santis, 69, motion picture photography director who won an Academy Award in cinematography for “Romeo and Juliet.” The Italian De Santis, the first foreigner to capture an Oscar in cinematography, won for the 1968 film version of the Shakespearean classic by Franco Zeffirelli. De Santis also had worked extensively with well-known Italian directors including Federico Fellini and Michelangelo Antonioni. Among his films were “Romeo and Juliet,” “Death in Venice,” “Lancelot of the Lake,” “Three Brothers” and “Carmen.” De Santis was in the Ukraine working on Francesco Rosi’s new film “The Truce” when he was stricken. On Sunday in rural Ukraine of a heart attack.
