Environmental Group Will March in Parade

Members of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust will be marching after all in the Fourth of July Parade.

The city’s Fourth of July Executive Board agreed Tuesday to allow the environmental group to participate in the 92nd annual event.

The board voted twice to not allow the group to participate because it violated parade rules last year when supporters passed out bookmarks along the parade route.

As a safety measure, parade participants are not allowed to hand out, throw or propel anything along the parade route.

This week, the City Council directed the parade board to consider reinstating the Land Trust because members have vowed they will abide by the rules of the parade.

Nancy Donaven, Land Trust president, said that allowing the group in the parade “reaffirms us as a bona fide member of the Huntington Beach community of organizations who are working for the good of our city.”

Juana Mueller, Land Trust vice president, said 50 members wearing red, white and blue will walk in the July 4 parade, with its theme of “Salute to the Olympic Games.”

Mueller said the group’s theme is to honor past Olympians who overcame great odds to win gold medals.
