Jon Jensen, the youngest son of John and Linda Jensen of Camarillo, died in 1984 of neuroblastoma, an ailment linked to leukemia and one of the most common tumors found in children.

The L.A. chapter of Make-A-Wish granted Jon his wish of touring the Johnson Space Center in Houston with his family. Later that year the Jensens, with help from Ventura County Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury and the late Bo Richards, then a disc jockey on KBBQ-AM, established a local chapter to serve Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

The firefighters’ association will receive the foundation’s Wishbone Award for its contributions to the organization. This year the firefighters have donated more than $16,000 to the foundation.

Tickets are $45 for the dinner event, which begins at 5 p.m. at the Poinsettia Pavilion, 3451 Foothill Road. The evening will include a magic show, silent auction and strolling musicians. A 1 p.m. matinee featuring the magic show is $12. Call 681-1644 for tickets.
