2 Road Improvement Contracts Approved

Two contracts for long-awaited intersection improvements totaling more than $2 million have been approved by the City Council.

Two additional turning lanes in each direction will be added to intersections in Laguna Hills--Moulton and Alicia parkways, along with Moulton Parkway and La Paz Road.

Drawing on state and county transportation money and a developer-fee program, the improvements will be done at no cost to the city, said City Engineer Ken Rosenfield.

Both intersections also will have “free” right lanes built, which allow drivers to turn without stopping.

In addition, the city will build landscaped medians in both intersections that will include trees, hedges and rail fencing.

The $1.2-million Alicia/Moulton contract was approved on a 4-1 vote Tuesday.

Mayor Randal J. Bressette voted against the improvements because he was concerned about the safety of the “free” right-hand turn lane planned for the intersection.

The council voted unanimously to approve an $895,000 contract for improvements at La Paz Road and Moulton Parkway.
