Jurisprudence

A woman convicted of marijuana possession two years ago was the only black chosen for the 12-person jury in Dallas Cowboy receiver Michael Irvin’s drug possession trial in Dallas.

The only other minority on the six-male, six-female jury is an Asian female. Both alternates are women, one a black.

“This is not a jury of his peers,” argued defense attorney Ron Goranson. “This is not going to bode well for the community.”

Irvin is charged with felony cocaine possession and a misdemeanor marijuana count stemming from an incident in an Irving hotel March 4.

Newly crowned International Boxing Federation heavyweight champion Michael Moorer was accused in Monessen, Pa., of creating a disturbance at a social club early Sunday.

Coach Tommy West dismissed two players from the Clemson football team after they were charged last week with intent to distribute marijuana. Antwuan Wyatt, one of the country’s top return men, and running back Anthony Downs were released on $2,500 personal recognizance bonds. A trial is set for July 15.
