Duo Delivers ‘Blanket Full’ of Audience-Friendly Tunes

Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer don’t have the relatively high profile of other successful children’s artists, but these longtime veterans of the field make some of the most child- and adult-friendly music around.
Their new album, “Blanket Full of Dreams,” is lyric storytelling, original quiet-time songs conceived with imagination and musical sophistication.
Vocally, the pair’s sound is closer to a comfy, mom-type croon than the more show-biz professionalism of say, Linda Arnold or Joanie Bartels. Instrumentals rank with the best.
Fink and Marxer, who perform on guitar, banjo and hammered dulcimer, surround themselves with other accomplished musicians on bass, harp, drums and more, playing the dozen selections in varied, but soothing styles.
With dreamy word pictures, the tender songs--from “Swingtime Lullaby” with its “pillow full of wishes, a blanket full of dreams,” to “Moon, My Dad and Me”--emphasize familial love and security.
* “Blanket Full of Dreams,” Rounder Kids/Rounder Records, CD: $15, audiocassette: $9.50, plus shipping and handling. (800) 443-4727.
