A man wearing a surgical mask and claiming to have a bomb robbed a Laguna Niguel bank Wednesday, one day after a similar attempt in Dana Point failed when the bank teller fainted, sheriff’s officials said.

The man walked into the World Savings Bank in the 28200 block of Crown Valley Parkway about 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Jay Mendez. He put a black backpack on the counter, said there was a bomb inside and demanded money, Mendez said. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man is described as white, about 5 feet 8, 145 to 150 pounds, with reddish hair. He wore a blue surgical mask, gray baseball cap, gray shirt and gray pants.

On Tuesday at 11:53 a.m., a robber wearing a green surgical mask also placed a backpack on the counter at First Interstate Bank in Monarch Bay Plaza in Dana Point, and said he had a bomb. The teller passed out.

“Once she fainted, he left,” Mendez said.
