Viacom to Launch Music Video Channel: Viacom will launch a sister station to MTV called M2 in August. The new channel will be run by Andy Schuon, executive vice president of programming at MTV, and is expected to showcase an eclectic mix of videos by underground rock, jazz, rap and world music acts. The news of M2’s launch is welcome among executives at the six major record companies, which have complained in recent years that music programming has taken a back seat to game shows on MTV.

MCA Music Distribution Chief Resigns: In the latest in a series of management shake-ups at MCA Inc., John Burns has stepped down as president of UNI, the distribution arm of MCA Music Entertainment. Sources said that former Warner Music distribution chief Henry Droz is being wooed to succeed Burns.
