Man, 44, Killed After He Steps in Van’s Path
A 44-year-old Oxnard man was killed early Monday after stepping in front of a van on Saviers Road north of Date Street.
The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives in Mexico, said Jim Wingate of the Ventura County coroner’s office.
The man was struck about 4 a.m. Monday by a van driven by Kaplan Kahalekulu, 34, of Oxnard, according to Senior Officer Tom Chronister, a spokesman for the Oxnard Police Department.
Witnesses reported that Kahalekulu had no time to stop, according to traffic investigators.
He was not injured.
