. . . Orange County’s first major brush fire of the season charred 40 acres east of San Juan Capistrano, burning through steep, rugged terrain before it was brought under control.

Fire officials said the blaze, fanned by a light breeze in 90-degree heat, was caused by a motorist tossing something from a car window, igniting dry brush.
