Lasorda Hopes to Return Soon

Manager Tom Lasorda, who was examined Monday by doctors, said he is still hoping to return to his job by the end of the home stand that ends July 17.

“Doctors say I’m doing great. They should know by the end of this week whether I can come back,” Lasorda said. “I can’t thank the Dodgers enough. [President] Peter O’Malley has called me every day. I can’t thank him enough. I know I’m ready to go.”

Lasorda, who suffered a mild heart attack and ulcer, will be examined at the end of the week.
