Part of CSUN Campus Loses Power
A subcontractor was shocked while testing electrical circuits at Cal State Northridge’s new utility plant Tuesday, causing an afternoon power outage on the western part of the campus.
The worker, who never lost consciousness, insisted that he was fine but was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, school spokeswoman Carmen Ramos Chandler said. He was transferred to the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital, where an administrator would say only that he was in stable condition.
The outage primarily affected administration, the education college and the student success center, which are situated in the west campus. Those structures lost lights, air conditioning and computer power, so classes were moved to other buildings, she said.
Because the school’s new central heating and cooling facility is a high-voltage area, extensive circuit testing had to be conducted before restoring power.
“Everything will be back up and running in time for business [today] at 8 a.m.,” Chandler said.
