CSUN Adds Business Law Field of Study

Share

The School of Business Administration at Cal State Northridge on Monday announced the establishment of a new field of study in business law.

The business law major, scheduled to begin in the fall, is one of only a handful of similar programs in the United States, said Melanie Havens, who chairs the department.

Havens said courses offered in the program--which will award a bachelor of business administration degree--will provide business students with a practical understanding of the legal requirements of running a business. They are not preparatory classes for law school.

“We are preparing our students to work in a world that is more and more regulated by the government and influenced by the law,” said Havens. “We have always had more of a stress on business law than other business schools and we felt that this type of program is especially important in today’s business environment.”

The introduction of business law will add several new classes to the business school’s curriculum, Havens said, but there are currently no plans to hire additional faculty.

Business law joins marketing, management, accounting, finance, management science and office systems as the fields of study available to students attending CSUN’s School of Business Administration.
