Lights for Ball Fields to Await More Studies
A check on the stability of slopes at Niguel Hills Middle School will be completed, along with other studies, before a final decision is made on a city proposal to install lights for the school’s softball fields, officials said Monday.
The City Council had planned to seek public comment Aug. 6, but several new questions raised last week deserve further research, officials said.
“The slopes failed in the rains a couple of years ago,” City Manager Tim Casey said. “The neighbors want assurances that planting trees atop the slopes and putting light foundations in them will not create a further risk.”
Nearby residents say they fear the fixtures will be unsightly and that night events will create noise and parking problems.
Officials said the public hearing is now set for Sept. 3.
