Student Expelled in Taping of Sex Video

The Los Alamitos school board on Monday expelled a 17-year-old charged with secretly videotaping himself and a 14-year-old girl having sex and showing the tape at school.

The five-member board of the Los Alamitos Unified School District said the teenager is suspected of violating several state education codes, including committing an obscene act and disrupting school activities, said Del Clark, board president.

Police investigators said the teenagers had consensual sex at the 17-year-old’s home Feb. 28, and a camera hidden under some clothes recorded them. The girl and her parents went to police May 3, after other parents learned from their children that the tape was being shown at school on a small display screen attached to a camcorder, police said.

The Los Alamitos High School athlete was not arrested, but the district attorney’s office filed charges against him last week. Because he is a minor, authorities will not describe the charges.

Detectives said the recording is illegal if the youth did not have the girl’s consent.

The school board’s vote, made in closed session, was effective immediately.
