Canon Files Second Suit Against Nu-Kote Holding

COSTA MESA — Canon Inc. said it has filed suit against Nu-Kote Holding Inc., charging the computer printer supplier with infringing the patent on ink cartridges for Canon’s Bubble Jet computer printers.
This is the second time Canon has sued Dallas-based Nu-Kote. In a lawsuit filed in April 1995, Nu-Kote was charged with the infringement of Canon’s trademark and the infringement of five other patents. That case is scheduled for trial in December.
The new federal court suit charges Nu-Kote with the infringement of one of Canon’s recent patents. In the suit Canon wants to halt Nu-Kote’s sales of ink cartridges for Canon’s Bubble Jet computer printers and recover profits lost from the alleged patent infringement.
Dallas-based Nu-Kote issued a statement describing the lawsuit as frivolous.
Canon Inc., based in Tokyo, makes electronic products from computer printers and photo copiers to cameras and video equipment. Its U.S. operations are based in Costa Mesa.
