Face-Off: Sparks flew between Los Angeles Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti and irate county supervisors Tuesday as Garcetti attempted to defend his office’s actions regarding alleged land swindles in the Antelope Valley (B1). . . . Twice previously when the board met to discuss the parcels sold by developer Marshall Redman, Garcetti stayed away. On Tuesday, he was grilled by Supervisors Gloria Molina and Mike Antonovich, who accused him of not acting quickly enough to stop the questionable transactions.

Dog ‘n’ Pony: Last week, he posed for pictures atop a horse. On Tuesday, when the Los Angeles City Council met in Sylmar, Councilman Joel Wachs, above, proudly displayed a pooch and joked that people would call the meeting a dog-and-pony show anyway (B1).

Best Bets: Wondering where to get the best used claw-foot tubs in L.A.? How about the most creative bikini wax? They’re in the Valley, according to Los Angeles magazine. . . . In its annual picks for the Best of L.A., the publication cites Scavenger’s Paradise in North Hollywood as the best place to buy used architectural stuff. We’re sure you’re dying to know that the best bikini wax is at Dantris Signature Skin Care in Tarzana.

Even Better: The Valley also is home to the best juice bar, Jumby’s in Studio City, the magazine says, although it sounds a cautionary note about the wheat grass. . . . The nod for best breakfast went to Jinky’s in Sherman Oaks, which serves a South of the Boulevard special consisting of onion, potato and cilantro pancakes with sweet-pea guacamole and onion marmalade. Yum.
