Chick to Seek 2nd Term on Council

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Laura Chick said Wednesday that she will seek reelection to a second term representing the southwestern San Fernando Valley.

Chick’s campaign manager, Harvey Englander, said he filed papers Tuesday with the city Ethics Commission declaring her intent to begin raising funds for the March election.

No campaign events have been scheduled, but the campaign will begin gearing up soon, Englander said.

Chick was the first to formally enter the 3rd District campaign. Englander said he had heard of a possible challenge by Morton S. Diamond, a Canoga Park paralegal who was defeated in the 1993 primary election for the seat.

Chick, previously chief field deputy for Councilwoman Joy Picus, challenged her former boss in that race. Proving to be an unusually successful fund-raiser for a nonincumbent, she forced a runoff, which she won.

She campaigned on a platform of making the city friendly to business, cutting waste in government and building the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department.
