Clearwater Shoots a 61 for Lead

Keith Clearwater shot a course-record 11-under-par 61, matching the PGA Tour’s best score of the year and giving him a one-stroke lead Friday after the second round of the Deposit Guaranty Classic.

Clearwater, who had a 71 on Thursday, bogeyed No. 1 on the 7,157-yard Annandale course, then played the final 17 holes in 12 under with an eagle on No. 18 and birdies on Nos. 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16 and 17.

He finished with a 20-foot birdie putt on No. 9 to break the course record of 62 set only 30 minutes earlier by Gil Morgan.

John Huston also shot a 61 this year in the Memorial Tournament.

Bobby Wadkins, winless in 22 years on the PGA Tour, was one behind at 133 after a 65. Morgan was two back along with Greg Kraft, Jeff Julian, Dudley Hart and Kirk Triplett.
