State Arts Council to Meet in Valley

The California Arts Council, the state agency in charge of awarding grants and giving technical assistance to artists and nonprofit arts groups, will hold its regular monthly public meeting Thursday in North Hollywood.

The council will discuss reports on pending legislation and the new state budget and hear a presentation from a multicultural leadership group.

Council members also will discuss the governor’s Conference on the Arts, the Arts and Technology initiative and the work of the California Sesquicentennial Commission.

Founded in 1976 to promote arts awareness and participation in California, the 11-member council will meet at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

There will be opportunities for public comment at the meeting, which will begin at 1 p.m. at the academy, 5220 Lankershim Blvd. On Friday, there will be a review of grants and programs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., also at the academy.
