Late Giant Homer Reverses Fortunes
Jon Sbrocco’s three-run, inside-the-park home run in the top of the ninth inning gave the San Jose Giants a 6-4 victory over the JetHawks before 4,792 at the Hangar.
The JetHawks (16-16), who were going for a sweep of the three-game series, took a 4-3 lead into the ninth with Clint Gould on the mound. Gould (3-2) yielded two hits and was replaced by left-hander Todd Niemeier, who gave up Sbrocco’s first homer of the season.
JetHawk starter Brett Hinchliffe gave up two earned runs in 7 1/3 innings. Hinchliffe has a 2.62 ERA in his past five starts but only two victories in those games.
Chris Dean had three of the JetHawks’ seven hits. Shane Monahan, who had missed the past four games with a sprained wrist, extended his hitting streak to 17 games, the team’s longest of the season.
