Share

Yvonne Alise Moreno of Thousand Oaks died Sunday after suffering a heart attack. She was 69.

Born in Los Angeles, Moreno attended Montebello High School in Monterey Park, graduating in 1945. After high school, Moreno took a job as a telephone operator at what is now Pacific Bell. She worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1975.

She met her husband, Ray, at a party in the early 1950s and they were married in 1954. Ray died eight years ago. They had no children.

In 1983, Moreno moved to Thousand Oaks to live closer to her family and to get away from the smog, said Moreno’s niece, Theresa Faulkner.

Moreno liked to spend her free time helping people, Faulkner said.

“Any time a neighbor needed help, she’d be there,” Faulkner said. “If they were lonely, she’d visit with them. If they were ill, she’d help clean their house. She took a personal interest in people.”

Moreno will also be remembered for her sense of humor, Faulkner said.

“The woman was hysterical,” Faulkner said, adding that Moreno kept a picture of Robert Redford beside her bed. “She had an excellent sense of humor.”

Moreno is survived by two brothers, Hugh Faulkner of Thousand Oaks and Steven Faulkner of Monterey Park, and her mother, Hazel Metzger of Monterey Park.

A memorial service is planned for 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Thousand Oaks.
