The County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday filled the vacant positions of clerk of the board and manager of internal audits.
David E. Sundstrom, auditor for the California State University system, was appointed to the county’s internal audits post.
A Westminster resident, Sundstrom has served as the CSU auditor since 1989, overseeing audits of university system’s bond programs, federal financial aid programs and 22 campuses.
Sundstrom will perform county audits that used to be performed by Auditor-Controller Steve E. Lewis. After the county bankruptcy, Lewis was stripped of his auditing duties and accused of not adequately monitoring the treasurer’s office.
Sundstrom will receive $105,000 a year.
The board appointed Darlene Bloom as the new clerk of the board. Bloom worked as Fresno County’s clerk of the board for six years and more recently was acting clerk for the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.
Bloom will run an office that prepares board agendas and handles assessment appeals. She will earn $72,000.
The county also hired Diane Thomas as manager of media/community relations. Thomas has served as communications manager for the Memphis City Schools system and public information officer for the Santa Ana Unified School District.
In other action Tuesday, the board voted to hire two firms to examine options for the county’s landfill system.
The firms will receive up to $100,000 to study the possibility of selling or leasing the landfills, hiring a management company to operate them or keeping them under county operations. The report should be completed by September.
