A 17-year-old Oxnard boy fractured his arm Wednesday after he flipped his sport-utility vehicle several times on the Ventura Freeway near Seacliff.

Ignacio Mendoza III was listed in fair condition at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he was being treated for numerous cuts and a broken arm, hospital officials said.

Mendoza was driving southbound on the freeway just south of Padre Juan Canyon at a high speed just after 11 a.m., when for unknown reasons he drifted into the center divider, the CHP said.

The vehicle, a Honda Passport, dipped into the dirt median, swerved back onto the road and then flipped several times, landing upright on the right shoulder, officials said. Mendoza was wearing a seat belt.

County firefighters used rescue equipment to remove Mendoza from the vehicle, and he was then transported by helicopter to the hospital, the CHP said.

The southbound lanes were closed for 20 minutes, officials said. There were no other injuries, the CHP said.
