Cal Poly Students Hired by La Habra for Land Use Studies

Cal Poly Pomona students and a professor have been hired by the city to conduct land use studies.

City Council members approved an agreement with the university’s Outreach Community Center for Urban Research to study La Habra Boulevard and other parts of the city, including commercial and industrial zones.

The city will pay $25,000 for the service, which is “probably one-eighth of what we would pay professionals,” Mayor Steven C. Anderson said. “Students and a professor will conduct the studies. . . . And you can’t buy their enthusiasm.”

The students will review the city’s plans for public improvements, redevelopment and landscaping on La Habra Boulevard and recommend ways to make them economically viable, city officials said. They also will survey the city’s commercial and industrial zones.

In addition, the Cal Poly group will be involved in designing signs and footpaths that would encourage pedestrians to turn the area into a hub for cultural, civic and recreational activities, officials said.
