Goat, Sheep Heads to Be Banned as Food

Seeking to head off another food scare, Britain has proposed new slaughterhouse rules to stop the heads of slaughtered sheep and goats from entering the food chain. But Agriculture Minister Douglas Hogg said the risk of “mad cow” disease, scientifically known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy, being transmitted to sheep and goats was merely theoretical. “These steps are being taken out of abundance of caution. There is no direct threat to human health,” Hogg said.
