Crew Wins on Disputed Goal
Pete Marino scored a disputed goal Thursday night to give the Columbus Crew a 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Mutiny, breaking a five-game losing streak in front of 12,832.
Robert Warzycha and Billy Thompson teamed up on a cross to Marino in the penalty box. Marino looked as though he was going to try to head the ball, but let it bounce and appeared to slap the ball in with his left hand in the 16th minute.
There were 28 fouls called. Tampa Bay (11-8), which was without injured midfielder Carlos Valderrama, committed 19 fouls. The Crew (4-14-2) had nine.
