AARON LIKES THE CALL

There was much speculation in Atlanta about who would light the torch at the opening ceremonies, and further speculation when Atlanta resident Henry Aaron not only was passed over for the honor, but was nowhere in the honor group of flag-carriers or final torch-bearers.

Edwin Pope of the Miami Herald visited the greatest home-run hitter in the history of baseball at his home, and asked Aaron if he had felt slighted.

“Oh, I thought about it,” he said. “But they made a wonderful choice in Muhammad Ali. If this was 20 years ago, it would have bothered me, but it’s not. I’ve been so blessed, and I just don’t have time to worry about why I’m not as famous as the Babe or any of that.”
