Economist John Mueller recently told clients of his Virginia consulting firm that “the astonishing fact is that the consensus of forecasters has never--ever--forecast a recession,” because recessions are aberrations and forecasters focus on trends. He predicts a 1996 recession--a lonely position. A Bloomberg Business News poll of 36 economists found all predicting positive growth this year.
