Huntington Beach Soccer Team Wins

North Huntington Beach FC defeated the FC Greater Boston Bolts, 1-0, in the girls’ under-19 Snickers Cup national soccer tournament final Saturday at Kuntz Memorial Stadium in Indianapolis.

Former Marina standout Jennifer Benson scored when she redirected a crossing pass from Sandra Smith.

FC Greater Boston nearly tied the score with two minutes remaining on a 12-yard shot from the left side but North Huntington Beach goalkeeper Celeste Adams knocked the ball away.

Adams had four saves in her second shutout of the tournament.

The championship is the first for the North Huntington Beach girls’ club team. The club boys’ team captured championships in 1991 (under-19) and 1992 (under-16).
