Man Dies After Being Pulled From Water
A 42-year-old Moorpark laborer died at a hospital early Monday after being pulled unconscious out of Lake Piru the day before, a coroner’s spokeswoman said.
Javier Bravo was apparently playing in the lake with friends and family members about 3:30 Sunday afternoon when he went to get a ball out of the water, said Senior Deputy Frank Underlin of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Nobody noticed where Bravo had gone or that he was missing, Underlin said, until someone spotted him floating face down a few minutes later.
There is no indication that Bravo hit his head, Underlin said.
Bravo’s friends pulled him from the water and U.S. Forest Service firefighters and Lake Piru rangers tried to revive Bravo by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but were unable to get a pulse.
Bravo was flown by a sheriff’s helicopter to Simi Valley Hospital, where a pulse was detected temporarily, but he never regained consciousness, officials said.
He died about 2 a.m. Monday, a spokeswoman for the county coroner said.
